Get me to the Greek!

Image
With Nicholas being such a powerful Greek name, and have always fancied myself as a Greek god with flowing locks and chiselled abs of steel, neither of which I have, of course. It's apt that Greek food is my favourite food. Yes dear reader, it's another restaurant review. With the dreaded holiday season upon us, it was time to tune up the band and head to Zorbas Greek restaurant. Located on Radford Road in Coventry (ten minutes walk from the city centre) Offering both dine-in and takeaway options, and with a 4.5/5 rating on google from over 500+ reviews, this was a place I had very much been looking forward to trying. Although lingering fears from my friend's last trip to a  Greek restaurant in Oxford, whereby many drinks were consumed, including 'egg cocktails'  from Hanks Bar, which resulted in one friend being so utterly plastered(UK slang for very drunk) he fell and smashed his face on the floor resulting in a concussion. But I digress, lets's get to Zorbaz.

Is it better to have brains- or pals? Be popular, or be a smarty pants??

Despite the title, this is not a blog about the pros and cons of trying to 'fit in'.  I have noticed that  in my 'ELT World' I have only been reviewing restaurants recently, so I thought it was time to as Eminem sang "get down to business"  Toward the end of my MA studies, I started my first teaching roles, completing 2(TWO) summer schools. One in Kent and one in Oxford, and I 'definitely' didn't complete these schools whilst also writing my dissertation. shhhh, don't telly Tilly.   Anyways- the point is, and there is a point, eventually, towards the end of my ramblings, that during these summer schools I used both ESL Brains and ESL Pals and thought it would be worth taking a closer look at these helpful websites.  Now, the first thing to note is that both offer a 'premium subscription service' to access the full library of lesson plans: ESL Pals offers three different options: Full Access for $49.99 for 6 months Full Access (lifetime

Buutttt did George in the Tree make us cry? Hello dear readers, I am back with another restaurant review (RR)  Now, let's address the elephant in the blog, in the last review I said my next post would be a review of the Brazilian restaurant in Coventry City Centre, and it is in fact a review of a completely different restaurant. Let this be a valuable life lesson, always expect 'crushing disappointment' and you can only be pleasantly surprised. I will get to the Brazilian restaurant in due course, however.  So on with the review. George In The Tree Beefeater  Kenilworth Road, Balsall Common, CV7 7EX  Opening times Mon-Sat 11.30am - 11pm Sun 12pm - 10.30pm Breakfast serving times Weekdays                                   6:30am - 10:30am Weekends  7am- 11am Yes, it's a Beefeater, which also means it's adjacent to a hotel, very handy if you overeat and need a nap :) Having been here a few times already- I had noticed they do a 'Sunday Roast special' which I

I'm sure you were getting 'antsy' for my return, so I am back, to review none other than 'Anatolia' a Turkish restaurant on Earlsdon High Street  Anatolia https://www.anatoliacoventry.co.uk/ 52B Earlsdon St. Having decided to go out for some food, and spending quite some time perusing trip advisor for 'Coventry's best restaurants' my friend and I decided to head to a nearby pub which was highly rated by a large number of reviews. However, upon arrival- disaster struck, as despite arriving at 7.30 and food advertised as being served until 8. The surly waitress informed us in no uncertain terms that the kitchen was closed. Well, this left us in quite a pickle, what to do, what to do- when my friend had a lightning bulb moment- let's try the Turkish place in Earlsdon. So, driving over there- we called them up to make sure there was space-and despite the restaurant being absolutely rammed- the friendly waiting staff managed to squeeze us in a table (alt

Ahh soo, Arco!

I promised I would return, and I feel that the time has come that you are hungry for more Nik-knacks. Well, I'm not just an aspiring languages teacher and Technology enthusiast(see all previous blogs) I'm also a big fan of a good meal (who isn't), so moving forward some of these blogs will be reviewing various eateries. A lot of the meal reviews will be based around Coventry and it's surrounding area as this is where I am currently based. Furthermore, if future Warwick University students find this blog, it will serve as a useful guide of places to go/avoid. So without further ado, lets get on with our first review:  Arco  Bar and Ristorante  https://www.arcocoventry.com/ Located at 13 The Butts, Arco is located in an ideal area just on the outskirts of the city centre and handily very close to student friendly pub The Aardvark.  Opening at 5pm each evening, it's an Italian establishment offering Pizza, Pasta, Seafood and meat based dishes. With a 4.8/5 Star rating
